Autopsia is a long-running avantgarde project, originally from Yugoslavia, but based in Prague for a while. They had over a dozen releases, on labels like Staalplaat and Hypnobeat/Hyperium. Autopsia celebrates its 25 year anniversary with the hybrid cd "Le Chant de la Nuit", which is available from the band itself in a numbered edition of 300 copies. The audio part of the disc contains 8 tracks. Neo-classical music forms the basis of their mostly instrumental music, but they combine it with industrial, ambient and experimental electronic influences. Their sound is perhaps related to acts like Test Dept, In the Nursery, early Laibach. The music of Autopsia is quite minimal and restrained, don't expect very bombastic eruptions. The atmosphere is mysterious and sacred, with many ritual elements. On this album Autopsia stay close to their traditional sound. My favourite track is probably 'Interdikt', a solemn hymn. I find this album very worthwhile, it has a good mixture of a nostalgic mood, an atmospheric cinematic sound and an equilibrium between experiments and beautiful music. The data section (cd-rom) has a complete discography, interviews, gallery,
screensavers and more. Created with Flash, it will keep you busy for
a while, though parts of the content can also be found on the Autopsia
website. The disc comes in a nice looking package with various inserts.

Autopsia - Le Chant De La Nuit
Der musikalische Teil besteht aus acht Titeln, die es insgesamt auf 51:41 Minuten Spieldauer bringen. Inhaltlich erwarten den Hörer elektronische, größtenteils sakralartige Klänge, in denen sich bombastisch anmutende Phasen mit ruhigeren Passagen, psychedelischen Sprachsamples, sakralen Chorälen, sowie Samples klassischer Musik abwechseln. Später mischen sich orientalisch anmutende Elemente hinein. Die eingesetzten Instrumente fallen durch ihre Vielfalt auf: Klavier, Streicher, Bläser, etwas, das wie eine Art Panflöte klingt, Glocken und Glockenspiel, langsam-rhythmische Trommeln. Dazu kommen angenehm subtil eingesetzte elektronische Effekte, so dass eine interessante und abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus klassischen und elektronischen Elementen entsteht. Den Höhepunkt der CD bildet für mich Track 7, in dem die helle Brillanz einer hohen Frauenstimme in einen spannungsvollen Kontrast zu düster-bedrohlichen Hintergrundklängen und einer nicht minder bedrohlichen männlichen Sprachpassage steht. Eine interessante und vielschichtige akustische Reise ist es, auf den diese CD den Hörer schickt. Wer mit der Internetpräsenz von Autopsia vertraut ist, dem dürfte die graphische Gestaltung des optischen Teils bekannt vorkommen, mit der Autopsia ihrem visuellen Konzept treu bleiben. Neben ikonhaften Artworks im bekannten Autopsia-Stil finden sich eine animierte Diskographie, sowie weitere Animationskunstwerke im Rahmen des „Autopsia-TV“. Die enthaltenen Interviews und Reviews stellen eine Fülle von Informationen bereit, es finden sich Verweise zu Downloadgelegenheiten, und auch Graphiken für den Bildschirmschoner fehlen nicht. Man sollte ein wenig Zeit mitbringen, um sich auf dieser aufwendig gemachten CD umzusehen, die durch ihren Detailreichtum und die ausgezeichneten Animationen, sowie durch ansprechende musikalische Untermalung auffällt. Wirklich alles zu entdecken dauert seine Weile – und das ist gut so, denn schließlich handelt es sich nicht um ein Werk, das für bloßes „Konsumieren“ ausgelegt ist. Ein weiteres Extra dieser Veröffentlichung, die in einer Hülle im DVD-Format daherkommt, ist das Inlay, welches neben einigen exklusiven Drucken auch eine Art "Landkarte" der CD-ROM und auch die Tracklist des Audioteils enthält. Autopsia Le Chant de la nuit (Illuminating Technologies 2005) CD 8 Tracks enhanced Das tschechische Klangkunstprojekt Autopsia existiert seit 25 Jahren. Obwohl sie ihre Arbeit zu einer ähnlichen Zeit begründeten wie die slowenischen Kollegen von Laibach, standen sie stets in deren Schatten. Doch wo Laibach mit dem Ende der achtziger Jahre vom dekonstruktiven Military-Klassik-Bombast in den Elektro-Pop-Bereich wechselten, blieben Autopsia ihren düsteren Wurzel meist treu. Ihre aufregendste CD ist bis heute "Paladium", eine soundtrackartige Sinfonie aus riuellen, ambienten und collageartigen Fragmenten. "Palladium" beeinflusste ganze Generationen von nachgeborenen Ambient-Tüftlern und besteht auch heute noch als eindrucksvoller Meilenstein dieser Richtung. Mit Laibach verbinden Autopsia auch die Vorliebe für klassizistische Ästhetik, hier in einer Verbindung okkulter, christlicher und totalitärer Bildwelten. Doch wie die Musik minimalistischer ist, haben Autopsia auch nie so ausgeprägt an ihrem Image und ihrer eigenen Mythologie gearbeitet. Im Grunde sind sie bis heute authentischer osteuropäischer Underground - selbst wenn ihrer Musik mal bei Peter Greenaway auftauchte (in THE PILLOW BOOK). Und von daher kommt auch die Jubiläums-CD "Le chant de la nuit" - liebevoll hangestaltet, bearbeitet und nummeriert. Auf acht intensiven Ambientttracks bleibt die Band ihren Wurzel treu, verbindet diese CD gar mit frühen Werken auf dem hollänischen Staalplaat-Label. Eine Entwicklung hat vor allem in der Klangtiefe stattgefunden, doch alte Fans werden hier ebenso begeistert sein wie aktuelle Ambient/Neoklassik-Hörer. Die CD kommt in einer DVD-Hülle mit einigen gestempelten Pappkarten und einer Menge CD-Rom-Inhalten, die die Geschichte von Autopsia dokumentieren - Interviews in englischer Sprache, kleine Animationen, Bilder... If you follow Chain D.L.K. from early 2001 you probably didn't miss
the interview I did with Autopsia. If you did, well, LE CHANT DE LA
NUIT is the perfect way to know their music and their attitude (you
can also find the interview I did into the interactive part). What LE
CHANT DE LA NUIT exactly is? Well I can't think about it only as an
album with an interactive section, because on the data section you can
find so many informations that we can think about LE CHANT DE LA NUIT
as a whole multimedia project. The musical part is divided into eight
different tracks and it is a compilation of tracks coming from "Mistery
science" ("Electrosphere", "(G)rave" and "Joy
of chaos"), from "Humanity Is The Devil 1604-1994" ("Prologue"
and "Delamentatione"), from "Palladium" ("Palladium
4" a.k.a. "Der Reichtum Des Vielen Und Das Eine") and
from the side projekt compilation "Prager Kodex" ("Interdikt"
by Hussite). The only track I don't know is "Tallow". If tracks
like "Tallow", "Prologue" and "Palladium 4"
are more based on the ambience created, "Joy of chaos" is
structured like a suite where rhythmical parts and electronic intermezzos
(with drum machine, sequencers, etc) break the tension by adding some
dynamical inserts. "Interdict" is like a dark medieval track
while with "Electrosphere" the atmosphere gets thick again
blending choruses and electronic sounds just to form a march. "Delamentatione"
and "G(rave)" don't release the tension and close the CD with
some other epic sounds. The interactive part is divided (just like their
website) into different sections: Discography, Gallery, Autopsia Television,
Reviews, Smrt Kultury Jako Komodity, Downloads (links to the www.bombaj.cz
website where you can purchase four of their releases as downloads)

FEARDROP Magazine No.12 La récente édition par Staalplaat d'une anthologie
de morceaux datant du début des années 90 /Colonia/
avait montré combien certaines compositions d'Autopsia pouvaient
mal suporter les années, accusant le poids de mélodies
affligées, de grandiloquentes nappes synthétiques. LE
CHANT DE LA NUIT, publié sur son propre label, n'inaugure aucune
déviation de style, on y entend les mêmes orgues qui dominaient
sur Death is the mother of beauty ou The Knife, les mêmes pianos
et percussions dramatiques. Ici pourtant, confirmant l'univers théâtralisé
d'une civilisation en déclin, les tableaux se font plus obscur
dans leur description /l'obscurité de propos ne pouvait, elle,
être dépassée/. Cet "orchestre de la pénombre"
fait s'écrouler la lumiére et floute les contours de
ses nappes sur lesquelles planent le chant fantôme de l'épopée
médiévale et les boucles effilochées de cordes
symphoniques. Les mélodies circulaires et dramatiques assureront,
elles, le contentement des nostalgiques d'un style death industrial
des premiéres années, des contemplateurs de champs désolés,
de paysages ultimes. Cette esthétique apocaliptique est l'un
des fonds théoriques de R.M./Autopsia et c'est avec une grande
rigueur qu'il reste fidéle á son projet. La tristesse
de ses opéras ultimes et solitaires est peut-être celle
d'un demier soir, oú les images édifiantes, et d'autres
plus abominables, qu'on leur oppose toujours, vont se rejoindre pour
révéler leur complicité. La religion, dont la
musique d'Autopsia fait parfois le commentaire, en est sans doute
l'exemple le plus éloquent.

MUSIC EXTREME August 2005 This is a multimedia CD-Rom containing eight tracks of audio Autopsia is a band that has 25 years and that keeps on experimenting ina grate way with dark sounds and atmospheres. Can their music be described as gothic? Maybe, but I think they go way beyond that style emphasizing atmospheres and climatic passages full of keyboards and amazing arrangements. Every one of the eight tracks here is a pure experience in darkness where different textures are developed in order to achieve the ultimate atmosphere. In tracks like "Joy of Chaos" we have also a programmed drum that adds a completely different feeling to the music, remaining dark, but adding a weird pattern to the music. In fact I think that the music here would be perfect for some kind of gothic horror movie because it has the perfect feeling to fit a darker than hell story. The CD-R has plenty of bonus files like discogrphy, screensavers, interview, pics and more. A killer band that constantly experiments with atmospheres and intrincated musical passages.

| Autopsia - Le chant de la nuit (cd Illuminating Technologies) Cedric, Nov 02, 2005 Side Line Autopsia is one of these bands that can be seen as a survivor or dinosaur of the 80s industrial movement. This project remained active all over the years, releasing multiple albums on different companies. Ano 2005, they came back with this new and limited to 300 copies "Le chant de la nuit". 8 tracks are leading us through a voyage in the darkest zones of the imagination. The style of Autopsia enters the ambient darkness while taking some distance with the past, where they prefer to explore medieval influences. The "Interdikt" cut is one of the single pieces on this new album reminding to their earlier work. The other cuts are closer to some prominent projects of the CMI-stable. Raison D'Etre cans definitely being seen as a similar project to the nihilistic obscurity of "Le chant de la nuit". The "Palladium 4"-cut is one of the best exponents in this genre. The "Delamentatione"-piece is another remarkable cut, where they still add a few, spooky vocal parts. Autopsia open the gates of the afterworld where the mortals become shadows and the shadows came down on earth to haunt the mortals.
